Rizek from Abu Dhabi is the first non-medical app to introduce COVID-19 test

A non-healthcare tech startup has become the first of its kind to offer on-demand polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for COVID-19 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Abu Dhabi-based Rizek, which specializes in booking personal and home services – such as DIY, tutoring, beauty and wellness – has now added coronavirus testing to its list of services.

Although on-demand home PCR testing has been available for some time on specific healthcare apps and portals, this is the first time that a “general service” app in the region has offered full testing. government approved.

With the opening of trips through the CCG, residents want to find fast, convenient and competitive testing solutions. Rizek’s decision could pave the way for more businesses in the region to integrate healthcare offerings into their own general service products.

According to the company, “Rizek is the first app in the region to offer COVID-19 home PCR testing, licensed from the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Department of Health (DOH).

“All tests are approved by local and international health authorities for entry into Abu Dhabi and international travel.”

Performed in the form of a nasal swab, the PCR test is performed at the location chosen by the user by “trained health professionals, fully equipped in PPE coveralls, gloves and masks”.

Test results – which are fully accredited for international travel or entry to Abu Dhabi, depending on the option chosen – are shared within 24-48 hours via the user’s registered email address. Eight-hour “express service” would also be available.

Currently, most UAE airlines require proof of a negative COVID-19 test before being allowed to board. Travelers are advised to take a COVID-19 PCR test no later than 96 hours before departure and present the printed test result certificate upon check-in.

“Rizek has always been at the forefront of solutions to help fight the pandemic and was the first platform to launch on-demand disinfection services,” explained Rizek Founder and CEO Abdallah Abu Sheikh. “We have also offered free disinfection services for labor camps and have now added home PCR to the list of health and wellness services already provided.

“We look forward to continually serving the UAE community in accordance with the UAE’s vision of exemplary leadership, with the hope of a healthier and stronger society.”
