HUED, founded in 2018 by Kimberly Wilson, connects patients with doctors of color
The Female Founders Fund has come forward and presented themselves for the digital health start-up TINT, which raised $ 1.6 million in seed funding led by female venture capitalists.

HUED aims to connect patients with doctors of color. Users can connect with Black and Latinx healthcare providers through the company’s website or mobile app, where they can schedule appointments with therapists, doctors, and even a doula.

HUED uses a patient’s insurance provider and region to match providers. The site also allows patients to access opinions on specific providers before making an appointment, according to AfroTech.
The frustration blacks and brunettes feel when it comes to finding a suitable health care provider was Wilson’s inspiration for HUED.
“No one is going to take care of us except us,” Wilson said. “Research shows people of color are not getting the health and medical care they need due to fear, access to quality health care, and mistrust of doctors. But more importantly, our pain and trauma are rejected. “
Wilson’s frustration with her own fear of healthcare also motivated her to create HUED. When she ended up in the emergency room in 2017 with complications from fibroids, Wilson said her mostly white doctors “dismissed my pain.”
“During that time, I saw a lot of doctors – mostly white men – who dismissed my pain or tried to push me down the path of a hysterectomy,” she recalls.
“Frustrated with my experience and having to travel so far just to find a culturally competent doctor – and the stories I had heard from friends and friends in my head, Serena Williams – I decided to do something thing, “Wilson said.
According to a press release, HUED is a digital health startup with a mission to make culturally competent healthcare accessible to black and Latin communities. Today, HUED’s database includes more than 600 healthcare providers tailored specifically to communities of color and has developed a digital training program for healthcare systems and stakeholders to dismantle structural and political barriers. that prevent these populations from accessing high-quality, culturally competent health care.
This year, HUED was recognized as one of the most innovative companies by Forbes, landing on the # Next1000 list. Through this round of funding, HUED will be able to train more than 5,000 healthcare workers nationwide.
“We are moving fast – by the end of this year we will be 10 strong. There were only five of us at the start of 2021 – between contractors and full-time team members, ”Wilson said. “What is most important to us when considering recruiting someone new to our team is their belief in our mission, their love of learning and an open and critical mind that always challenges assumptions and the status quo. “
